SURF LIFESAVING: For brother and sister Kirsty and Zane Holmes, there is no underestimating how reassuring it is to look over and see the other in the crowd when lining up on the sand.

Today they will be able do just that for the first time in seven years at the Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman Series opener at Surfers Paradise.

Individually they are two of the most celebrated Australian surf lifesavers of the last 20 years Co Zane is a five-time Nutri-Grain Series winner and four-time Australian ironman champion and Kirsty is a two-time Australian ironwoman champion.

While Zane, 30, has been a fixture of the $400,000 series for the past 10 years, today will mark Kirsty's first race since her retirement in 2004.

Kawana-based Kirsty, 38, said she felt reinvigorated but did not know if she could reproduce her form of old.

C[pounds sterling]It's a little bit of an unknown for me, but I feel really excited,C[yen] She said.

C[pounds sterling]When I finished the sport back in 2004 when I was 31, I never really got nervous or excited, so that was a good sign that I was ready to finish and I suppose this is a sign that I really want to be here and am ready to race.C[yen]

Gold Coast-based Zane, meanwhile, is attempting something of a comeback of his own. …
