PROMO TALK IS PREMATURE; Great Win but Mowbray Stays Cautious

BORO have put a major marker down by winning at Cardiff but it's still too early to talk of promotion, cautioned Tony Mowbray today.

Saturday's 3-2 victory has left Boro just three points behind former runaway leaders Southampton and two behind second-placed West Ham.

Mowbray's men have now won three on the spin since losing to the Hammers on November 29, a result that left the club 10 points off top spot and eight off second.

Crucially, in terms of play-off ambitions, Boro have an eight-point lead on seventh-placed Reading, who will be looking to break into the top six.

Typically, Mowbray is refusing to believe the hype, and reckons at least another 10 games have to be negotiated before promotion talk can be countenanced.

"It is a fantastic result, I'm not playing it down, but the next game is Hull City at home who are on a good run themselves and we've got to get ready for that one now," he said. …
