Babies Benefit from Staff Fun; Company Keeps Up Donation Deed for Mater

THE generosity of one company will mean fewer premature babies born at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital Rockhampton will be sent to Brisbane.

Undermine Industries and Coaltrain company director Karla Way-McPhail said every year, for the past seven years, the company has used its staff Christmas party as a fundraiser for a charity either in Central Queensland or the Rockhampton region.

This year, the company, which has about 75 employees, raised $6000 for the Mater Hospital's maternity/women's ward and spent another $4500 on iPads, iPad accessories and other games and toys for the children in the ward.

aAll employees donated gifts as well,a Ms Way-McPhail said.

The staff party was held on Saturday at Yeppoon's new town hall, where about 180 staff members and local businesses linked with Undermine, gathered and raised funds.

Maternity/women's ward nurse unit manager Sue Nouwens said the cash donation would pay for a new vapo-therm system, which is a high-flow oxygen system. …
