Davis leads celebrity classic

GOLF: Rodger Davis leads the Jack Newton Celebrity Classic by two shots after the opening round at the Cypress Lakes course in the Hunter Valley.

The veteran seven-time European tour winner carded a six-under-par 66 to lead NSW professional Brad Fasher who finished two shots behind the 60-year-old.

US PGA tour event winner Nathan Green, fresh from playing at the Australian Masters in Melbourne last weekend, is four-under-par ahead of a cluster of players, including Brad Ogle, on three-under-par.

That event features professional players largely from the PGA, Nationwide and Asian tours, in addition to celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment.

Aussies climb up Olympic ladder
