DRIVING through the night to avoid Pacific Highway traffic proved an unwise decision for a car load from Sydney.

At 3.30am on Friday a car collided with a truck at Upper Warrell Creek Road, Macksville.

The serious accident shut down the Pacific Highway for several hours and left one passenger with life-threatening injuries.

All four people in the car were rushed to Coffs Harbour Health Campus.

The driver of the car suffered possible spinal injuries while the passenger in the front seat, a woman from Argentina, is in a serious condition after suffering head injuries and a fractured leg.

The two passengers in the back seat of the car, two woman from Fairfield West and Wentworthville, suffered minor back and neck injuries.

The truck driver was taken to Macksville police station to assist with police investigations.

The accident is a timely reminder that Christmas is easily the busiest time of year on Coffs Coast roads as the Pacific Highway becomes choked with holiday traffic. …
