A CHARITABLE Teessider will take a break from Christmas Day celebrations tomorrow to brave the cold water for a good cause.

Gary Cosker and his dog Charlie are set to take part in a sponsored dip at Redcar beach in aid of Little Hearts Matter.

The charity was set up in 1994 at the request of parents of children who had a life threatening diagnosis of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome - a rare congenital heart defect in which the left ventricle of the heart is severely underdeveloped.

It now receives up to six new referrals each week and offers a variety of support and information to those affected when a child has a single ventricle heart condition.

Gary, 51, who lives in Redcar with wife Jane, 40, said: "I have been playing pool for over 30 years and am trying to set up a league where all the teams play for charity.

"I am hoping it will help 20 charities. "The stewardess at my local club then asked if when we do it, our team could support Little Hearts Matter as she knows a little boy who lives in Middlesbrough who gets help from the charity. …
