THE hunt for a missing Tyneside man took a tragic twist when his body was discovered in a park near to where he was last seen.

A missing person's inquiry was launched on Boxing Day after Benjamin Kennedy vanished from his girlfriend's home, in Walker, Newcastle.

The 21-year-old was last seen when he left the house at around 9am on Monday, but when he failed to return to the house where he had been staying in Laurel Street, Wallsend, he was reported missing. Officers said they were concerned about Benjamin's safety because of his state of mind. And his description was circulated as frantic friends tried in vain to contact him by phone and text message.

But shortly before 1pm yesterday officers looking for him found a body at Walker Park, close to where Benjamin was last seen alive. Police have now formally identified the body as that of Benjamin. Officers say his death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner has been informed. …
