OAKHURST mother Kris Dodd was stunned when her son met his match with a massive two-metre eastern brown snake last week.

The deadly reptile had slithered on to the road and was killed, so her son Joe Dodd took out the tape measure without risk of being bitten a and discovered the snake was longer than Joe was tall.

aWe know that there are snakes here, but we don't usually see them,a Ms Dodd said.

aSo to find such a poisonous snake so close to our home is shocking.

aAnd the fact that it was as tall as my son was just incredible.a

Maryborough snake handler Roy McGrath said the giant eastern brown snake had the potential to kill hundreds of people, as it was among the world's most deadly snakes.

aThe best thing for people to do if they find a snake is to call a handler,a Mr McGrath said.
