Stl Northern League Preview

Article excerpt

IT is a long time since Consett were in the bottom six of the STL Northern League but they go into this morning's game with championship contenders Spennymoor Town just four points outside the relegation zone.

Manager Kenny Lindoe, who a decade ago steered Brandon Utd to the championship, admits the Steelmen are in the middle of a bad run.

He said "I have had a lot of key players missing and eight were absent against Tow Law Town on Boxing Day.

"Hopefully, six will return today, but I am also looking to strengthen the squad."

Anthony Lund, Ryan Bell, Carl Piecha, Jonjo Dickman, Gavin Ross and Harrison Davies are expected to be added to the squad, but Lindoe is without Craig Robson and Dale Burrell.

In contrast to their opponents, Spennymoor Town are riding high as they aim to win the championship for a third consecutive season.

Jason Ainsley's side is in fourth position, only five points adrift of leaders Sunderland RCA.

Moors have a number of games in hand on the three sides above them.

Assistant boss Perry Briggs. said: "It is always a tough game at Consett who have a good manager in Kenny Lindoe.

"We had a good win against Shildon on Boxing Day but even so cannot take anything for granted at Belle Vue Park even though we will have Stephen Capper returning to a full-strength squad."

Leaders Sunderland RCA hope to bounce back from a Boxing Day defeat when they travel to Shildon, where manager Neil Hixon could involve Oliver Forsyth, signed from Horden CW.

The Wearsiders, who have transferred Bryan Stewart to Shildon and Scott Richards to Esh Winning, welcome back Andrew Cuthbertson and Steve Jones.

Newcastle Benfield have Guisborough Town visiting the Sam Smiths Ground and boss Alu Bangura is confident of a good result now Shaun Bell and Brian Dodsworth are back to full fitness.

South Shields are well clear of the drop zone following their moraleboosting victory at Sunderland RCA on Boxing Day. …
