RACING: Documentation relating to the trials and tribulations associated with owning and training racehorses is monumental but another intriguing chapter will commence when dashing looking filly Lady From Mossman graces Rockhampton's Callaghan Park racecourse on debut today.

To be ridden by the Gold Coast's Tony Pattillo, Lady From Mossman will contest the $20,000 QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap (1050m).

Lady From Mossman, so named through her Mossman-Lady Of The House lineage by her caring owner Coral Vagg, was purchased by her husband, the trainer and breeding buff Vic Vagg for $10,000 at the Magic Million Winter Sales on the Gold Coast in 2009.

C[pounds sterling]I remember bringing her home and ringing her breeder just to check on her tetanus needles. He said to me Cyyou didn't buy that filly, you stole her. I was expecting she's bring $40,000',C[yen] Vic recalled last night.

Although they weren't to know it at the time, it's a fair bet that Lady From Mossman, with a pedigree where the deeds of close family members have enhanced her stud value, has probably turned out owing the Vagg family close to her breeder's original price tag.

Not only has the horse-loving Vaggs, who helped nurture recently retired glamour sprinter Aspiran to success, reared Lady of Mossman for almost three years, but they have also financed some sizeable veterinary bills.

C[pounds sterling]She always showed me something and I was very happy with her,C[yen] Vic said.

C[pounds sterling]Then one morning last summer during the big wet I went to the stables and there she was cast in her box.

C[pounds sterling]When she finally got up she couldn't walk. I nearly cried.C[yen]

The Vaggs spared no expense to comfort and tend their then two-year-old Lady From Mossman as they came to terms with the complexity of her injury when it was diagnosed.
