Jarrad's Big Lift-Off; but Can He Leap Tall Buildings in a Single Bound?

SUPERMAN pulled trucks, picked up cars and flipped heavy objects with ease.

But in reality these skills are unimaginable, except for those who take part in strongman challenges.

Twenty-year-old Beerwah security guard Jarrad Gaudern will test his strength in today's Glass-house Mountains Strongman Challenge.

The five-challenge event will see 19 competitors in four divisions complete a carry-and-drag medley, farmers-and-tyre-flip medley, arm-over-arm truck pull, car dead lift for reps and axle press for maximum weight.

The categories are women, and men under-90kg, under-105kg and opens.

Jarrad, who will compete in the under-105kg division, said the only event he wasn't confident in was the axle press.

But he said after his performance at last year's inaugural event, he's hoping for a top-three placing today.

aI am praying I go well,a he said.

aI have been training hard since the last event. Hopefully it pays off. …
