Ipswich Delivers on Record Birth Rate; Baby Boom Topped Last Year

IPSWICH played its part in pushing Australia to an estimated record baby boom last year.

Ipswich Hospital reported unprecedented delivery numbers for 2011. Hospital records show the maternity ward delivered 2671 babies between January and November of 2011 a 3% more than during all of 2010.

The record birth rate for 2011 works out to an average of more than 240 babies born each month, or about eight babies each day.

Doing their bit to carry the Ipswich Hospital baby boom into 2012 was Peak Crossing couple Tony Martin and Tracey Davies.

About eight months ago the pair was pleasantly surprised to learn they were expecting not just one, but two bundles of joy.

They narrowly missed out on contributing to the 2011 baby boom, delivering healthy twin boys Terrence and Daniel at 10.05pm on New Year's Day.
