Chartered financial planner GARETH DAVIES joins Brewin's growing financial planning team from a regional IFA.

Originally from Liverpool, Gareth moved to the North East in 1998 to attend Newcastle University where he studied economics and accounting, graduating with honours in 2001.

Holding the Advanced Diploma from the Chartered Insurance Institute as well as being a chartered financial planner, he is qualified and experienced in providing a wide range of financial services and advice, with particular expertise in the field of retirement planning and pension legislation, to both corporate and private clients.

The firm has also invested in the future by recruiting two locally-born graduates. ANNABEL BREAKEY joins the firm with an economics degree from Leeds University and THOMAS SMITH arrives with an economics degree from the University of Aberdeen. Both were educated at Royal Grammar School, Newcastle.

SIOBHAN McMAHON has become a director of Darlington-based Niven Architects, working with senior director Simon Crowe to establish the business on the regional and national stage.

Durham-born, the 39-year-old left the North East at 18 to study architecture at Queen's University, Belfast. In 1997 she qualified as an architect and has worked in Malaysia and Ireland, specialising in large-scale, highrise developments.

She returned to the region in 2005 to join Niven as a consultant, later joining the business on a full-time basis and was made an associate director 18 months ago. Siobhan is also involved with the National Association of Women in Construction and has recently set up the Northern Region Committee Group which will be hosting events by spring. …
