Driver Pleads Guilty over Fatal Car Crash; Alcohol and 195kmh Led to Highway Tragedy

A TYNDALE man has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death over a crash that killed Woodburn teenager Chase Mason in January last year.

Several other charges against Grant David Wright, 44, including manslaughter, were withdrawn but he faces charges of drink-driving, negligent driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm when he faces Grafton District Court on February 27.

Police facts tendered to the court said Wright registered a blood alcohol reading of 0.157 from tests taken at Lismore Base Hospital after the crash on January 5 last year.

A photo presented to the court by police showed the crashed car's speed- ometer stuck on 195kmh.

Wright was driving Chase, 16, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, and Chase's girlfriend Madeline Jenkins, 14, to Chase's Woodburn family home after a night of drinking with the

minors, police said. …
