Fears Held for Home as Fire Rages; Resident Turns on Her Sprinklers as Firefighters Battle Shoal Point Grass Fire

A SHOAL POINT resident feared for her home yesterday when fire started burning near the surrounding hill near her property.

Donna Burns said the smell of the smoke from the large fire was almost suffocating.

C[pounds sterling]I was starting to get a bit worried because I have animals out in the yard,C[yen] Ms Burns said.

C[pounds sterling]I'd closed up the house and put the air conditioners on because of the smell.

C[pounds sterling]I put my sprinklers on in the yard just in case it came any closer to the house because the wind had picked up.

C[pounds sterling]There weren't many flames but I could see where the fire had burnt grass and tree trunks.C[yen]

Ms Burns said a fire had never come that close to her house before even though a Queensland Fire and Rescue media spokeswoman said there was no threat to the surrounding homes.
