THE Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund today received [pounds sterling]100,000, taking the total raised to [pounds sterling]7.3 million.

The windfall comes from BGC Partners and Cantor Fitzgerald, the City bond dealers who raised $12 million ([pounds sterling]7.8 million) globally last September to commemorate the 658 colleagues who died on 9/11.

The Dispossessed Fund is one of 20 British charities and 75 worldwide charities that benefited from their annual charity day.

The boost to our award-winning fund comes a day after our record handout of [pounds sterling]1.25 million to 163 grassroots charities tackling poverty and benefiting tens of thousands of Londoners.

A total of 560 groups have received grants so far and we have distributed almost [pounds sterling]3 million to charitable and community-led projects since the Fund was launched in July 2010.

Shaun Lynn, president of BGC Partners, said: "Our annual charity day represents an opportunity for us to raise as much as we can for those less fortunate than us in memory of the friends and colleagues we lost in 9/11. …
