XANTHE Eppelstun's story about earning a spot at Australia's top acting school is one of determination beyond her years.

How this 19-year-old actor from Murwillumbah overcame initial rejection to earn a place at the National Institute of Dramatic Art at her second attempt could be the plot of a Hollywood blockbuster.

The story begins with six-year-old Xanthe in her first production at Murwillumbah. Later, while travelling with her family in Thailand, she has an a[approximately]epiphany' and vows to pursue a career on stage.

This time last year, after graduating from Mt St Patrick College with a score in the top 0.9% of the state, Xanthe had the choice of any career path she wanted.

True to her passion she auditioned for NIDA in Sydney, the drama school that trained the likes of Mel Gibson, Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett.

Only 16 people are selected to train at NIDA each year and, despite her academic brilliance, the selectors turned Xanthe away. …
