Car Parking Stalled in Ballina CBD; Council Reports Lack of Interest

A LONG-awaited development to improve parking in Ballina's CBD appears to have stalled because of a lack of finance.

Four years ago the Ballina Shire Council received development consent to build a multi-level car park and commercial space behind Wigmore Arcade.

The consent lasts five years and retailer Treudie Kaehler of Flowers in Paradise said it's time development started.

Ballina Retravision owner Elton Cummings said retailers have waged an aongoing battlea to try to get more parking in the CBD.

aThere is less parking available in Ballina now than there was 15 years ago,a he said.

aWhen it comes to businesses the council are the biggest landlord in town and if they develop a good strategy for parking it will improve the value of their assets and the community will benefit as well. …
