A CONTEST for comics should ensure the laughs flow at a Teesside comedy club.

Teesside's All Jokes Aside club has launched a competition to unearth some of the UK's funniest performers.

And part of the first prize is a support slot when a well-known comedian plays the club in April.

The big show, at Redcar's Coatham Memorial Hall on April 28, will feature Nick Helm - winner of the "Joke Of The Edinburgh Festival 2011" title and a regular on Russell Howard's BBC3 show Good News Extra.

But before then, three lots of 10 comics will battle it out for the support slot prize.

Each comedian will have just seven minutes to tickle people's funny bones.

All Jokes Aside was set up in October 2010 by pals Richard Batt and Carl Gillespie, both of Middlesbrough.

It gives budding comics the chance to try out in front of an intimate live audience and has so far wowed punters in Middlesbrough, Stockton and its main home, Redcar's Clarendon pub. …
