Caravan Parks Contribute Heavily to Bay Economy

I WOULD like to make comment on the never-ending bashing of the caravan parks on the waterfront.

Roderick Makim's article stating Cr Dalgleish's plan to extend the water park is interesting. Obviously Cr Dalgleish has not looked into his plan. The water park is successful mainly because it is free. A lot of the tourists who go there are already staying at the caravan park next door over the school holidays. Extending the water park to get more tourists does not seem to be as straightforward as one would think.

The water park is mainly visited during the warmer months of the year and stands almost idle during the winter. The caravan park at Pialba is very popular in the school holidays and during the colder months from Easter through to September. These tourists probably would not be interested in going to a waterslide, but do spend a lot of money on other necessities during their four-month stay over winter. They go to clubs, shops, restaurants and take tours; all the things that keep the town economically viable. …
