Pounds 25k Writing Contest Now Open for Entries

THE annual Northern Writers' Awards are now open for entry, giving rising talents a chance to share in a prize of pounds 25,000.

The awards, run by New Writing North, are a way of shining a spotlight on authors from across the region and this year's competition is open to submissions of prose or poetry until April 20.

Any North East resident, from Northumberland to the Tees Valley, can enter with 3,000 words or up to 30 poems of a work in development.

Entries can be from across the spectrum of fiction, narrative non-fiction, poetry or children's books.

The competition is an ideal opportunity for keen writers to gain recognition and support for their talent as well as feedback and input from the staff of the Newcastle-based new writing agency and the award judges.

Over the past 10 years, New Writing North has made awards to more than 100 writers, with 75% of them going on to publish the work that won them the award.

Among them are authors Alice De Smith, Carolyn Jess-Cooke, Mari Hannah and Toby Martinez de las Rivas. …
