CHAMPIONS Lingdale strengthened their place at the top of the table and stepped up their title defence with an emphatic 8-0 win against basement club Brotton Railway Arms.

With four goals in each half, Lingdale controlled the game.

Flatters claimed a hat-trick and Crooks got a brace among the scorers.

Of the chasing pack, only Boosbeck United managed a win, 3-2 away to Lealholm, to keep alive hopes of overhauling the league leaders.

A first-minute Liam Raw strike put them ahead but Mike Thompson and a Duncan Marson penalty got Lealholm in front before Arran Johnson levelled, then Shane Breckon snatched a last-minute winner.

Lingdale United and Loftus fought out a goalless draw - although Lingdale missed a penalty and then Wayne Skelton hit the crossbar.

Stokesley took swift revenge for a cup defeat last week with a 4-2 win over North Skelton Bulls Head.
