AMONG the excitement of a day at the races there is an unsung hero who is a vital part of racing in Coffs Harbour.

Perfecting the track for race day, as well as working with the trainers, Coffs Harbour Racing Club's new track manager Scott Jarvis has plenty of responsibility on his plate.

Jarvis, who moved to the Coffs Coast less than a month ago, has hit the ground running and is quickly building his name among the local racing community.

While this week's deluge of rain has made his job harder than usual, Jarvis said the job always kept him busy.

aCoffs is a great track and it is my duty to ensure it is always at its best for the trainers and on race day,a he said.

aOne of the big challenges is to make sure that the grass track always has plenty of give in it for the trainers, so their horses don't get injured before a race meet.
