Article excerpt

BIG BOUQUETS to several authors of letters, in Friday's paper. One of the most enjoyable series of letters, ever.

First bouquet is to Robert S Buick, for his C[pounds sterling]Making your own luck in the lucky country C[yen], worded perfectly. C[pounds sterling]Our leaders have lost sight of what the average person needs and therefore is entitled to, to maintain it, being a lucky country.C[yen]

Another bouquet to Mary Black re C[pounds sterling]Rush to judgementC[yen].

We were expecting a whole lot more letters re this injustice of judgement and we agree whole-heartedly with what Mary submitted.

What an utter disrespect, for hard working, nil payed folks for their efforts, normal types of hard working persons, as per example, the Morcombe family. This award to certainly a prominent person, seriously involved with the arts, who we admire in his films but which is more important, the lives of innocent children and preventing anguish and endless heartache to families who through no fault of theirs, have children kidnapped and murdered? We agree, that award, was a sad joke.

Missing Jamie

I TOTALLY disagree with the letter in Thursday's paper regarding Jamie Dunn. What is wrong with a bit of humour as well as a story or two about the generosity of people and their ways. Should be more of it. It is depressing reading about events you have no control over without a bit of a laugh every now and then.

I for one will miss his column as it was the first page I turned to each Saturday morning. I laughed at the antics of his children and his daily happenings. Most parents of children around the age of Jamie's could identify with the things he wrote about and for me reading the paper over a bit of toast and a cup of coffee for brekkie won't be the same.
