NEWCASTLE boss Alan Pardew admits his Barclays Premier League side have their work cut out to avoid another FA Cup upset as they prepare for their third round trip to Brighton.

The Magpies were famously humbled by Ronnie Radford's non-league Hereford 40 years ago and Gus Poyet's Championship side will go into the game confident of causing another shock.

Pardew said: "It is a tough game. They have got some really good players. They pass it and they are patient and you have to admire that. It's hard to do it in the Championship and get success, but they are making a good fist of it."

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson insists he will take no risks for his side's third round clash with Norwich, with a view to protecting his big names ahead of a couple of potentially vital Premier League games.

Hodgson said: "I will not be taking risks if there are people who might be ruled out of the next two league games if they play in this one. It might be a good opportunity for one or two players to come in and show what they can do."

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers will also shuffle his starting line-up for his side's trip to struggling Bolton - but insists he is still serious about his club's hopes of a good run in the competition this season.

Rodgers said: "With us playing again on Tuesday, it will be difficult to play the same team. But it's also an opportunity for me to play some players who haven't played as much. We want to do well in the cup."

Bolton boss Owen Coyle must decide whether to include striker Kevin Davies, who has been the subject of increased transfer speculation this week, with Sunderland reportedly on the verge of making a bid. …
