SIX current Gateshead College students and one former student represented Gateshead Reserves in their 1-0 loss to Hartlepool at the International Stadium.

They were goalkeeper Peter Jameson, Lewis Lynch, Jordan Marshall, Lee Mole, Dominic Brown and full-time professional Robbie Briggs, with fulltimer Josh Gillies the former student. Heed manager Ian Bogie and his assistant Terry Mitchell took in the game, with Bogie quick to praise the college players' efforts.

He said: "It was a great opportunity for the college lads and shows just how strong Paul Bryson's Football Academy programme has become.

"All the players held their own, which is great considering eight of the Hartlepool team have had first-team experience in the Football League this season."

GATESHEAD College's BCS League Two side defeated North Tyneside neighbours Tyne Met College 4-2 with two goals in the last five minutes.

Gateshead went behind to a penalty midway through the first half.

However, they rallied and Mark Hammond curled a great finish into the corner for their equaliser.

Second-half substitute Callum Smith scored Gateshead's second goal with a chip from the edge of the box.

Tyne Met levelled again, but Gateshead finished the game with a flourish. Connor Cooper's delightful cross to the back post was headed home by Alex Lovett for a 3-2 lead.

A minute later, Jonny Bone intercepted an attempted back pass to round the goalkeeper and seal a victory which moves Gateshead into second place in BCS League Two. …
