NIKITA McDonald could call the Kawana Waters Surf Life Saving Club her second home.

The 16-year-old Mountain Creek resident has been a member for about three years and can be found patrolling Kawana beach every weekend. Even in the off-season she is training or competing in the Inflatable Rescue Boat team.

aI always watched lifesavers on patrol and I always wanted to be one,a Nikita said.

aI love helping the community and love being a part of it. After I joined I realised how easy it is to make friends in the club.a

Nikita gained her bronze medallion in 2010.

aYou have to be 15 and over and it's a requirement for other awards,a Nikita said. aIf I didn't have it I wouldn't be able to race the ducks, and it's easier when you're on patrol because other people can go out on boards.a

She said there had to be a minimum of three people on patrol who had their bronze. …
