Importer's Plans Get Pounds 150,000 Cash Boost

A LIGHTING importer's plans to quadruple the size of its business have been given a pounds 150,000 boost from a venture capital investor.

Hexham-based Amitex LED Lighting Co Ltd has seen growing demand for the energy-efficient LED lighting it sells to wholesalers in the UK and US.

And now the firm's hopes of increasing its supply right across the UK have been backed by an investment from the Finance For Business North East Growth Fund, which is run by NEL Fund Managers.

Amitex the business was originally set up as a consultancy which assisted with the importing of a number of different products from China, including LED lighting.

Managing director Alan Morton says: "The cost-efficiency, where consumers can save up to 80% off their energy bills, and the environmentally-friendly nature of LED lighting makes it a very appealing product, and we've certainly benefited from a massive upsurge in demand for our product range in the last few years. …
