BEACH erosion has not deterred Surf Life Saving NSW from conducting next month's State Surf Life Saving Championship at Kings- cliff.

Recent site visits by event organisers revealed even more of the beach had eroded over the past few weeks, which meant there was a chance some events may need to be relocated to nearby sites.

The juniors (March 2-4), masters (March 8) and open championships (March 9-11) will all be held at Kingscliff but officials said that if conditions worsen some events could be conducted at nearby Fingal Head or Pottsville.

The carnival referees will work closely with the event organising committee which includes Cudgen Headland SLSC, to make sure any changes to venues are minimised and are communicated immediately to team managers, competitors, officials and the local community.

Surf Life Saving NSW surf sports director Michael Bate says while the ongoing prob- lems with erosion are disappointing, the organisers are determined to deliver a world-class championships event in the Tweed Shire. …
