TONY Mowbray believes it was right that Saturday's game was abandoned.

The Boro squad travelled down on Friday for the clash with Ipswich and that probably played a part in the decision not to call the game off on Friday night, when temperatures dropped to minus 13 Celsius.

There was a pitch inspection at 11am and a further check at 2pm once the heated pitch cover was removed.

On both occasions the surface was declared fit but was clearly deteriorating as kick-off approached.

Mowbray said: "In the end, it was probably the right decision to call it off.

"The bigger question would be was it right to start? But I was here this morning and it was lovely under the big hot-air bubble.

"There were a few concerns when it came down, but we were happy to start because we'd spent five-and-ahalf hours travelling down.

"We were here and the supporters were starting to come into the stadium. I think it was the right decision to start. …
