Sand Shapes as Quick Test; Surface Expected to Play Major Role When Lost for Words Makes Grafton Debut

WYRALLAH-based trainer Gary Friend is no stranger to a smart greyhound and it looks as though he has found a few more judging by the impressive form displayed by his El Galo x Enticed Lass litter of pups.

The team of talented youngsters will each be stepping out for their first Grafton assignment this afternoon and while starting at a new track is always a tough assignment, these puppies just may have the talent to offset their inexperience here.

Heading the team will be Lost For Words which will contest the final event of the day, the Kleenheat Gas Stakes.

Lost For Words has an impressive career record of five wins from just seven starts. Given that all of his wins have been on grass racing surfaces it will be interesting to see just how he adapts to the sand surface at Grafton but punters can rest assured that the whole team will be well schooled at this venue.

While she has had fewer starts than her brother, the record of Lucky Star is no less impressive with her five career race starts resulting in four wins, including a fast last start 22.86 second victory over 395m at Albion Park in Brisbane.

With that effort she proved that a sand racing surface will be no barrier to her prospects in the Caldwell Electrical Stake today and that may just be the clue for punters that her litter mates may also adapt to sand racing as well.

While not possessing the same win strike rate, New York Minute and Hanna Savanna have each shown ability with the former scoring two wins from five outings with three minor placings while the latter has been placed in four of her six starts. Both these runners should be given plenty of respect when assessing the leading hopes in their respective races.

A great field of top-grade sprinters has been assembled for the Carters Canine Capers Free For All (407m) which promises to be a real spectacle, however trying to find the winner of the event looks to be a nightmare. …
