DRINKERS could hold the key to tracking down a love rat who broke his girlfriend's heart then stole her car.

Detectives are hunting the smoothtalking conman who befriended a woman online, before conning his way into her life and her home, and then stealing her motor.

Now after a previous appeal for information drew a blank, they have launched a poster campaign in Newcastle to catch the trickster, as he brought his victim on nights out to the city.

The woman, in her 40s, befriended the man on an online dating website.

He gave the name Jaime or Jamie Patterson, and within three weeks they were an item and he had been to her house, in Easington, County Durham, and left his belongings there.

On October 26, the love cheat dropped her off at work in Sunderland and said he would be back to pick her up following her shift once he had visited his Newcastle home to collect some of his belongings.

When he failed to turn up or answer his phone, she got a taxi home, where she had to break into the house, as he also had the keys. …
