READING have now gone 473 minutes without conceding a goal in the Championship but boss Brian McDermott (pictured) said praise was due to the whole side, not just the defence.

"It is an impressive statistic but it is not just down to the lads at the back, although they have done well," he said.

"But you defend as a team starting right from the front and the whole team has done that.

"They have worked hard, kept shape and concentration and stayed organised.

"It was hard work against Boro because they are a good team and we probably didn't make our first pass count as much as we would have liked.

"And it was a relief to get the second goal when we did because they were having a lot of the ball at that point.

"We are up to third now but we aren't getting carried away. After six games we were bottom of the league and we didn't get carried away about that too much either.

"There's still a long way to go yet."

Boro dominated the early stages and created some half-chances before Reading scored from their first real attack and sealed it with a second on 80 minutes. …
