ZAZAMIX and Saveiro fought out a finish at Catterick just as they had done seven days earlier at Wetherby - but this time the roles were reversed.

Alan Swinbank's Saveiro came out on top last week and reappeared under a 7lb penalty, offset by the in-form Lucy Alexander taking 5lb off in the Book Tickets Online At Handicap Chase.

Given the handicapper has raised him 11lb he was sent off the 5-6 favourite to oblige, but jumped sloppily early on and could never get on terms with Zazamix (7-1) in the straight.

Adam Nicol, who claims 10lb for Andy Crook, gave his mount time to find his feet, having been outpaced early on, but a bold move turning into the straight paid off and he won by two and a quarter lengths.

Crook said: "He should be winning races likes this as he was rated much higher when we got him off Nicky Henderson.

"He's got his confidence back now and the better ground has helped him.

"I think we'll keep him to sharpish tracks. Adam used his head well there."

The best horse on show during the afternoon was arguably the Evan Williams-trained Bruslini (7-2), who came home alone in the Dine And View At Catterick Races Beginners' Chase.

Formerly with Philip Hobbs, the Terry Warner-owned grey put in some bold leaps on his way to victory and had the race won before Stopped Out was the last of his rivals to exit at the second-last.

Winning jockey Tom O'Brien said: "He jumped well, if a little to his right.

"I'm not sure if I'd have won if the other horse had come to him as he's a bit of a thinker." Donald McCain had his customary winner when Star In Flight (1-3 favourite) landed prohibitive odds in the Watt Fence Novices' Hurdle.

A winner at the venue in December, he looked booked for another victory last month but unseated Jason Maguire. …
