THEY may have taken some time to show their hand, but that has not dampened the enthusiasm of the latest crop of candidates in the state election.

Greens candidate Peter Higgins, Family First candidate Trevor Versace and independent candidate Peter Wyatt all kept their candidacy for Bundaberg from the media until they were announced at the ordering of the ballot paper on Monday.

Greens candidate David Eastland was the only addition to the Burnett electorate at the ceremony.

Mr Versace, who ran for the federal seat of Hinkler for Family First in 2010, said he had been working on his candidacy for at least five months.

Mr Versace, who owns a real estate business in Gin Gin but lives in Bundaberg, said he would focus on what he could achieve, not on his federal campaign defeat. …
