Feb. 18 will offer opportunities to sweat, catch some beads and hear cannons blast.

The day starts at 8 a.m. with the 10th annual Bridge Run, a 3.1-mile race over the Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick.

For those who just like to watch other people walk, there's the 18th Annual Mardi Gras Festival and Parade and Festival in St. Marys at 10 a.m.

And on St. Simons Island, Fort Frederica National Monument will hold its living history festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate the 276th anniversary of the founding of the fortified British town.

BRIDGE RUN

The Bridge Run on the 7,780-foot-long arc over the Brunswick River is described as Georgia's toughest 5K. It drew 2,200 registered participants in 2011 and for all the work in running it, it offers spectacular views of the river, the marshes and the sound.

The runners will start at 8 a.m., the firefighter challenge at 8:30 a.m. and walkers at 9 a.m.

All pre-registered runners will get long-sleeve T-shirts. Overall winners will receive $1,000 for first place, $500 for second and $250 for third.

Registration is $25 by Monday and $35 afterward.

A printable registration form is available online at www.sghs.org. Participants may register at www.active.com.

Runners should arrive by 7 a.m. because of heavy traffic.

ST. MARYS MARDI GRAS

The St. Marys Downtown Merchants Association is again sponsoring Mardi Gras with floats and costumes based on this year's theme, "All That Jazz."

More than 80 vendors will offer food, art and other items beginning at 9 a.m., and the parade will start at 10 a.m.

Cooks will vie in the Great Camden County Chili Cookoff from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and entertainment will begin on the waterfront stage at noon. Pets will parade in costume at 1 p.m.

After the daytime fun ends at 5 p. …
