Family Still Seeks Closure; Judge Adjourns Sentencing of Man

THE family of deceased motorcycle rider Damien Lawrence attended Toowoomba District Court yesterday to finally see the man blamed for his death sentenced and to bring some closure a only for the case to be adjourned again.

Brian Adrian Hunt, 61, had on February 9 pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing the death of Mr Lawrence, 33, on Wyreema-One Mile Rd on September 7 last year.

However, upon a prosecution application, the sentence was adjourned until yesterday.

At the conclusion of prosecution and defence submissions yesterday, Judge Debra Richards told the family and friends of both Mr Lawrence and Mr Hunt who packed the court room that she had a lot to consider and a lot of material to read before she could arrive at an appropriate sentence.

She adjourned sentencing until Monday morning and remanded Hunt in custody.

The court heard Mr Lawrence was riding his Harley Davidson in the opposite direction to Mr Hunt's Ford Ranger 4WD when Mr Hunt suddenly turned right across the road into the path of the motorcycle. …
