WOULD-be premier Campbell Newman says charging up to $22,000 a head for the pleasure of his company is C[pounds sterling]democracy in actionC[yen].

The Liberal National Party leader (pictured) was forced to defend his party's fundraising activities yesterday after reports the Queensland Opposition was charging between $3300 and $22,000 for membership to a series of QForum events.

The first was held on Thursday night and featured former federal treasurer Peter Costello.

Premier Anna Bligh seized on the report, telling reporters the C[pounds sterling]price of doing business with the LNP is escalatingC[yen].

C[pounds sterling]It's not just a question of these donations, it is a question of what people buy with that money and they have already bought a change in planning policy under a Newman-led government,C[yen] Ms Bligh said.

Mr Newman said $22,000 bought a seat at the head table and C[pounds sterling]democracy in actionC[yen], but he denied it also provided the buyer with greater influence over LNP policy. …
