FAST-GROWING Stockton car parts company NIFCO has been named Teesside's Company of the Year for the second year running.

It took the top title in the first heat of the nebusiness awards 2012 last night, beating Darchem Engineering of Stillington and Stockton's Five Lamps, a social enterprise helping the unemployed.

The company celebrated the extraordinary achievement of winning the top award in two consecutive years at the awards, which are organised by The Journal and Evening Gazette in association with the North East Chamber of Commerce.

Last year the company went on to win the North-east Company of the Year Award.

Last night's honours, held at Teesside University, saw double success for NIFCO which also took the Low Carbon Award.

It's been a year of huge achievement for NIFCO UK, having picked up the keys for its new pounds 8.5m factory earlier this year - a facility which was officially opened by the Duke of York last month.

The firm has seen revenues grow by nearly a third to pounds 30m in the last year as it bounced back from a difficult trading period that saw it lose a third of its 240-strong workforce during the height of the recession.

It now hopes to see revenues of pounds 45m by 2014.

Mike Matthews, managing director of NIFCO UK, said to win the top award for the second year running was "absolutely fantastic news" for the firm.

"It's even better than last year as we really didn't expect to win," he added.

In total 10 awards were made at last night's honours.

And it was an evening of triple success for Middlesbrough-based video games development company Double Eleven.

The company scooped the Science and Technology, Newcomer of the Year and Small Business awards.

Launched 18 months ago, the firm was founded by lead engineers from the company that brought the market Grand Theft Auto. …
