RUGBY UNION: New Caloundra Lighthouses coach Brad Tronc says he has high hopes for the 2012 Sunshine Coast Rugby Union season.

The Lighthouses will kick-off their campaign on Saturday with a road trip to Kevin Kaesar Oval against the Caboolture Snakes.

Tronc has taken over from Keith Lelisi as the club's head coach and will be aided by the fact the Lighthouses have managed to keep most of their senior squad together.

The club has just a handful of major ins and outs with the biggest being the return of Sean Mackle, the SCRU competition's 2009 Player of the Year.

No.8 and former Sunshine Coast Stingray Mackle has come back to the club after a year off from the game.

The club has lost valuable cattle in the likes of Joe Lyons, Troy Johnston and Ed Adie, but Tronc said that would be offset by the addition of Mackle and highly rated hooker Richard Smee.
