AIR Products' green energy facility will power 50,000 homes with green electricity in the short term - but could hold the future key to a low-carbon chemical industry for Teesside.

TEESSIDE'S super-scheme to capture carbon from Teesside's heaviest emitters could be a massive boost to the economy. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology sounds like the stuff of movies, but if it comes off, the Eston Grange Power Project will see the greenhouse gases from Teesside's big chemical companies transported to massive subsea voids in the North Sea.

The project, with a price tag of more than pounds 1bn, will create construction jobs and effectively slash Teesside's carbon emissions - welcome news for heavy industry as the cost of emitting carbon soars. …
