Teen Rapist Goes to Jail; Sentencing Coincides with LNP Boot Camp Idea

THE jailing of a teenage rapist yesterday coincided with the LNP announcement of a boot camp program to address juvenile crime.

The Youth Boot Camp Diversion Program has been devised to target young offenders spiralling out of control a such as an 18-year-old who appeared in the District Court in Rockhampton on a string of charges.

The teen pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm, robbery, breaking and entering and stealing a offences committed in late 2010, when he was only 17.

Crown prosecutor Joshua Phillips said the teen had previously been convicted of rape and indecent treatment of a child in the children's court.

He said the defendant was on bail for the robbery charge when he assaulted two men and broke into Bunnings Warehouse to steal glue to inhale.

Mr Phillips said the defendant and his co-offenders orchestrated two attacks on men with the help of their victim's girlfriend and ex-girlfriend. …
