Ivanovic Has Final Say for Chelsea

Chelsea 4 Napoli 1 (Chelsea win 5-4 on aggregate) BRANISLAV Ivanovic's powerful extra-time stike ensured English representation in the quarter-finals of the Champions League as Chelsea completed a remarkable comeback to defeat Napoli at Stamford Bridge last night.

Frank Lampard's penalty took the last-16 encounter into extra-time - and he and Didier Drogba were key figures on the night.

The west Londoners came into the return leg on the back of a 3-1 defeat in Italy and took a first-half lead through Drogba. Chelsea doubled their advantage two minutes into the second period thanks to a John Terry header, which would have been enough to put the home side through on away goals.

The tie turned back Napoli's way when Gokhan Inler netted, although Lampard struck from the spot after Andrea Dossena handled to force extra-time.

Blues captain Terry headed wide within moments of the match beginning and only a superb reflex save from Morgan De Sanctis prevented Daniel Sturridge lashing home in the fifth minute.

But for all of Chelsea's early intent, Napoli were looking dangerous going forward.

Marek Hamsik almost scored in the 10th minute when he sent Petr Cech the wrong way with a scuffed effort, although the goalkeeper's outstretched leg put the ball wide.

Juan Mata saw an effort ruled out for offside on a rare foray forward, before Napoli returned to the attack and Cavani struck wide.

However, the Partenopei were made to pay for their futility in the 29th minute when Chelsea capitalised on a rare defensive lapse. Ramires produced a superb right-footed cross that Drogba headed home, having lost his marker Hugo Campagnaro. Sturridge miscued a header wide as the west Londoners continued to press, before Maggio limped off and had to be replaced by former Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena.

The game opened up as half-time approached and, after Frank Lampard picked up the evening's first booking in the 43rd minute for a challenge on Juan Zuniga, Paulo Cannavaro cleared a Luiz cross off the line. …
