Warriors Coach Is Applying Pressure; ICE HOCKEY

LIFE, he admits, is a box of surprises. Garry Dowd hopes this weekend plays out far closer to form.

The Whitley Warriors playercoach (pictured above) has guided his side to second in English National League North One in his first season at the helm, and cemented their place in the play-offs.

But things do not end there. Whitley must, he insists, maintain the pressure on league leaders Billingham Stars.

To do so, they travel to Trafford Metros today (face-off 5.15pm), before entertaining Sheffield Spartans at Hillheads tomorrow (5pm).

And though both opponents lie in mid-table, Dowd says these constitute "must-win games".

Yet so long as his team play the hour, rather than spells of it, he remains confident they can emerge with the points he demands.

"These are must-win games for us, because we're getting ready for the play-offs," said Wood.

"We've had a great season but it's vital we keep the pressure on Billingham.

"We've played them four times this season, and drawn twice and lost twice. …
