High Cost of Boarding Will Hit in 2015; Independent Schools Face a Shortfall of Funds for Year 7 Students

BOARDING costs at Rockhampton's independent schools will have to rise when Year 7 pupils move to high school in 2015.

The Rockhampton Grammar School headmaster, Dr Philip Moulds, says money promised by politicians to help pay for the transition is anot aligned with the real costs of caring for young students.a

And unless the State revises its budgets, parents will have to bear the brunt of the cost, he said.

aThis is a regional issue across all of Queensland for thousands of families who require affordable, accessible, high-quality education that is not available close to where they live.a

Dr Moulds is calling for more consultation between the Government and families who require boarding schools.

He said the controversial decision to move Year 7 students to high school had been a political football for the past two years and he believed there had not been sufficient consideration to the impact on boarding schools. …
