SHANE Newstead timed his run to perfection to win the New South Wales AMCA Sedan Championship at Lucas Oil Lismore Speedway on Saturday night.

Newstead raced to the front in the latter stages of the main event and went on to record a convincing victory.

The win was especially pleasing for Newstead, who fitted a new Holden engine late in the week for his title assault.

aThe car worked perfectly on the night after the earlier heats and I am really pleased to have claimed the title,a Newstead said.

Australian champion Campbell Hughes and Stuart Hall battled for the lead in the early but Hughes' title hopes ended when he blew a tyre.

Newstead then seized the opportunity to make a winning pass on Hall as the laps ran down. Hall held on to finish second, with Jason Dreaver third.

Jai Stephenson won the V8 Dirt Modified Stampede, crossing ahead of Andrew Pezzutti and Kevin Britten.

Stephenson took full advantage of his up-front starting position in the 30-lap final and charged to the lead early. …
