Jonas Could Lead against Liverpool; Argentine Set to Fill in for Compatriot Coloccini

ALAN PARDEW has heaped praise on one of his men for all reasons, Jonas Gutierrez.

The Newcastle United manager could well hand the Argentine the captain's armband against Liverpool this Sunday.

It was Jonas who stepped in to take the captaincy from fellow countryman Fabricio Coloccini at West Brom and he kept the troops rallied to see out an excellent road-trip win.

Jonas has now played leftback, left wing and central midfield in the last two games.

And Pardew told the Chronicle: "Jonas Gutierrez was called on to do another job, this time in the centre of midfield.

"He's done very well. We haven't had Cheick Tiote, but we still controlled the game.

"We played some fantastic stuff. There has been a new buoyancy about us."

Pardew's side picked up plenty of plaudits after the win at West Brom. And after moving on to 50 points, they mathematically secured their Premier League place for next season with eight games to spare. …
