Active Risk Slumps While Helius Surges

THE FTSE 100 Index closed 33 points lower at 5869 yesterday, with the recent rally in the stock market petering out by Tuesday afternoon. The top performing stock was Royal Bank of Scotland, its shares gaining over 3% to 28.67p.

Within The Journal North 40 Index, shares in Active Risk slumped by almost 20% following a disappointing trading statement. The company said that it now expects revenue for the current financial year to be lower than last year and that it will remain loss-making due to unexpected delays in closing significant contracts. However, management stated that the company's financial position remains strong and that the delayed contracts, as well as other significant contracts, remain in negotiation and are likely to be concluded next year. The company's full year results are expected on May 16. Its shares closed the day at 32.5p.
