VEGETABLE prices continue to firm, returning great quality beans, broccoli, cauliflower, Asian vegetables, celery, zucchini and cabbage back to pre-glut prices but they are still great value.

Potato, pumpkin, onion, corn and carrots remain cheap. Capsicums have reduced in price and their quality is improving. Watch for fresh sleeves of English spinach and the arrival of spring onions from this week.

All categories of tomatoes are plentiful with truss tomatoes and field grown varieties comparative in price. Most of the green leafy varieties, such as iceberg and cos lettuce, are reasonably priced.

Shepard avocados are value for money and sensational in flavour this season. Cucumbers and some herbs have firmed in price.

Its apple time and new season granny smiths are slightly tangy but great for cooking. New season gala, delicious and jonathon varieties are plentiful while pink ladies should be on the shelves by the end of the month. …
