Clarence in Top 10 for Alzheimer's Sufferers

THE announcement by Alzheimer's Australia that the Clarence Valley is in the top 10 dementia regions in the state has prompted calls for people to plan better for their future.

According to research by Deloitte Access Economics, the Clarence sits 10th in NSW for dementia rates with 1338 dementia sufferers, a figure that is predicted to grow by 320% by 2050.

Almost 280,000 people have dementia in Australia and each week there are 1600 new cases of people with dementia reported across the country.

With this number projected to double by 2030, Alzheimer's Australia NSW CEO John Watkins says it's time for people to plan ahead and set out their wishes about our health care and financial affairs.
